Trip Report - Vienna 9/21 – 9/23

Thanks to all who answered my numerous questions. The trip was a success and Vienna is a pretty city.

Hotel:

K %26amp; K Palais Vienna

If I were to go to Vienna again, I would not stay here. Despite what the reviews said, it is not really central. I would stay closer to The Opera House if I can do it all over again. When we checked in, we were given a room with two twin beds and asked to change to a room with a King Bed. They were happy to switch the room, but when I went to the lobby to pick up the new room key (archaic room key btw), the woman at the front desk was not very pleasant. She scowled and cut me off as I was explaining to her that I needed to switch keys. Anyway, she did the same to my husband and we were a little taken aback, but let it go because we were on vacation. The room was neat and clean, as was the bathroom. The breakfast was just ok, nothing special. Overall, it was a budget hotel and we got what we paid for. It wasn’t terrible, but not the nicest place either.

Food

We kept dining low key in Vienna because it was very expensive to dine out; however, we still had really good food at nondescript restaurants/pubs

Café Central – we stopped here for a quick late lunch before sightseeing. I had the special of the day which was curried chicken and it came with a tiramisu dessert. My husband had a ham and cheese sandwich and of course we had beer. The food was really good. We both enjoyed our meal

Tandoor Plus – We ended up here for a late dinner since we had a late lunch and enjoyed the Indian Fare (I know Indian food twice in one day). We got an appetizer each and shared a chicken entrée. My husband got the samosas which were still frozen inside while he was eating. My grill was tasty.

Café Demel – we stopped in for cake and coffee. I am not a good judge for cake, but it was tasty and fit what we needed at the time’

Café Mozart – Had a quick lunch here. Nothing special. We split a platter of sausages and our guide had plum cake and coffee. Food was good as well.

Bermuda Brau – We stumbled upon a street where there were many restaurants and cafes and ended up eating here. We had the most fun here as it was lively and fun. I tried the goulash and it was delicious.

Things we did/Sights we saw

We did all the touristy things possible. We rode the tram around ringstrasse, ate a lot of tort, and went out to Shonbrunn palace was beautiful, saw the beautiful Stephansdom, and visited Mozart’s sites. It was a short trip, but well worth it.

Thank you for your report, great that you enjoyed Vienna

Eating out in Vienna is not so expensive

Vienna consits more then the 1st district but it seems nobody crosses the border of the Ringstrasse (-_^)

Strange that you ended up in Tandoor Plus if the restaurant Koh-i-noor ist just around the corner. It is the best one in Vienna and Tandoor Plus is mostly known for their lazy waiters...they must have got that from the Viennese ones (^____^)

Hope you come again and have more time to explore Vienna
