Hi,
I finally booked an apartment after looking at soooo many and now realize that Wagramerstrasse is in the 22nd district. It appears to be across the Danube and not much around it to go to market or bakery or restaurants. Again, we are two females and I do not know if this area will be safe to travel back to in the evening on train. Any advise will be appreciated. I really wanted to be in the city center area.
Thanks again,
Peggy

It´s perfectly safe - but a residential area; not near the city centre and Wagramerstrasse itself is quite a busy street, too, traffic-wise.
Underground line U1 will take you into the centre from Kagran or Kagraner Platz, depending on where your apartent is situated. Kagran-Stephansplatz (city centre for St Stephen´s Cathedral) is about 10 minutes. Across from the Kagran stop, you´d find the Donauzentrum shopping mall (only don´t think of its size in terms of an American mall ;)) with the usual brands, cafés and restaurants and a cinema next to it. As far as recreation goes, you´d be on the doorstep of the Danube and Danube Island, though this might not be at all important to you.
The historic city centre goes by postal/zip code 1010, if you wish to search for another hotel. 1040, 1060 or 1070 are popular and central, too, when it comes to accommodation.

Wagramerstrasse is a very long street in the very large 22nd district. You do not list an address - if numbers under 150 I think you will be in the area between the Danube and Donauzentrum.
I would think this is not the area as this has mostly business interestsand several hotels perhaps a suite hotel.
As mentioned not an ideal location.
Donauzentrum itself is now in a phase of construction to enlarge it. The last time I was by there it was a mess. Even the old parking garage demolished.
Further out on Wagramerstrasse it does become more residential but nothing exceptional and not great access for dining, shopping etc. Of course a longer ride toward city center.
All sightseeing , good dining will require public transport for some distance.
Take the advice above and look for a better location.

Thank you so much for your input. the address is Wagramerstrasse 4/1103 1220 Wien.
I am going to give them a call now because I already charged a deposit. I will see if thay have anything in the districts you mention. Thank you again very much. I hope I can make a change.
Have a good day.

I think by the address you give this is in a high rise apartment building , one of several in this area just past the Reichsbrucke crossing the Danube River.
A larger building is toward the river , this address behind. Perhaps by the address you give it is apartment 1103 - usually 11th floor and #4 is the street address.
This is very near to the United Nations complex of buildings and other commercial office buildings next to it.
Also not far from a UBahn stop line U-1 Vienna International Center / Kaisermuhlen- this not a long distance from the city center about 6 stops - but the area suffers from lack of restaurants , shopping.
The area just south of this location is more residential and with some markets- probably best reached by the bus 90 or 91a

Thanks all for your advise. I was able to change the location to district 2. The owner was very accommodating although we have to switch apartments, but that is fine at least we are closer to restaurants, markets. The guest book on the apartments was very good -- I will already recommend them at www.vienna-vacation-rental.com. Thanks again, Peggy

The 2nd district is not the best part of Vienna but definitely closer to the central district. Where exactly is the apartment you have switched to?

It is located on Max Winter Platz

%26quot;.....at least we are closer to restaurants, markets%26quot;
I wouldn%26#39;t count on that too much! However, Mikey is our local expert on the 2nd District and he may be able to make some recommendations in the area. But as far as public transport to the city centre is concerned I fear you may have been nearer to a direct connection where you were!

From Max-Winter-Platz you walk approximately 5-10 minutes to Praterstern Station which is a major interchange in Vienna. There you find two subway lines (subsurface), local and regional trains of ÖBB (elevated) and other means of transportation. The station building has recently been refurbished offering now some great facilities such as supermarket (opened seven days a week until 21:00 hours), bookstore, bakeries and restaurants (mostly fast food). Unfortunately, this station (or its foreyards) tends to turn into a freak show at some evenings/nights and weekends because of the supermarket. I am NOT saying that it is UNSAFE, I just want you to be prepared. It is just the other side of the imperial Vienna I would like to hide from visitors.

Hi Burnley and Mickey,
Thank you very much for the info.
We don%26#39;t mind walking and as long as the train station area is safe at night we don%26#39;t mind any kind of shows, we are from the New York City area---another place with various shows but also safe, in the right locations, as any city.
Mickey,
are you able to tell me what train we would get from Praterstern Station to center city? Also, do you know if we can get any kind of faster train to Znojmo, Czech Republic from here. It appears as though the info I have shows you must take a bus on route because of construction.
Thanks again for whatever advise you can give. Also, if you can suggest some good restaurants in area and any safe nightlife? Greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Peggy
